DescriptionAn impressive Broad-chested bulldog with an imposing mastiff presence.
The dog's jaws are punishing. Coloration varies and is not of
tremendous importance: conformation and balance are more vital to the
Ca de Bou. Colors are usually shades of yellow, red, tan and fawn
brindles occur. The Head is massive but not excessively wrinkled,
appearing more like a Canary Dog. The Coat is short and smooth.
OriginEspana regaled in dog fights- the Spaniards who have never been
renowned for their love of the bull were engrossed in bull &
bearbaiting as a spectator sport. Even today while bull & bearbaiting
has been outlawed dogfights are still supported by certain, thankfully
small circles. Mallorca one of the Balearic islands off of the coast of
Spain, developed this "gripping" canine to participate in its
dogfighting ring. Organized dogfights on Mallorca have waned and with
it the population of Mallorquin Bulldogs. A number of dogs still exists
but residents believe that most of them are mainly crosses of the
original dog.
TemperamentWere one to find a purebred Mallorquin Bulldog one would possess a
guard dog of unsurpassable ability- a dog that would require discipline
and attention. This breed is strong-minded but obedient if properly
reared from puppy hood. Although it remains formidably powerful and
alert, and retains the tenacity of its bull-baiting past. This breed is
not for the causal pet owner. This breed is usually an unsuitable
child's companion and tends to be a bit dog aggressive.
